Once your house is on the market to sell, you want potential buyers to see themselves enjoying the home. This is hard for buyers to do if the life size photo of your family in the living room is watching their every move. By removing any photographs, art work and decor that may be overly taste specific, you allow the potential buyers to see the home as more of a neutral palate. But don't go overboard by removing all the furniture and painting all the walls white. Work with your realtor or home staging expert to develop a plan to make your home appeal to the largest pool of buyers without breaking the bank by redecorating everything before you move. And most importantly, don't think of de-personalizing your home as a comment on your personal style but creating a blank slate for the next owner.
