PACKING UP: A LITTLE LABEL CAN GO A LONG WAY

March 14, 2011

Labeling what is in your moving boxes and where they are going is essential when organizing your home for a move. This allows you, your family and those friendly volunteers (or hired hands) to know exactly where an item is going in the new home. Mark the outside of the box in large block letters and cross out any previous writing that may confuse or mislead movers.  Knowing what is in a box can also help ease the stress of unpacking by helping you locate important items more easily.  If there are several types of items in a box, jot a quick list such as "kitchen utensils, mixing bowls, measuring cups, etc" and attach the list to the outside of the box or set it on top of the items on the inside of the box.  To take it one step further, consider prioritizing boxes with a unpacking number of 1 (must unpack today) to 3 (save for a rainy day).

A bit of preparation can go a long way in alleviating some of your moving related headaches.  That's why I will be focusing on preparing you and your family for smooth moves during the month of March.
