Social media is a great way to stay connected with friends and family, but it is also a super tool when it comes to planning a trip. From checking out your sister's photos from her ski trip last winter to Lake Tahoe to looking for restaurant recommendations from your old high school buddy who now lives in Boston, let your friends and family be your personal tour guides. Here some suggestions on how to use social media to plan your next vacation:
- Gogobot-Gogobot is a social media site directed specifically at travelers. Review hotels, solicit suggestions of activities or restaurants, post photos of places you've visited and make/find friends in the travel community.
- Facebook-Put those 400+ "friends" to good use...ask for recommendations for the places you will traveling. Chances are someone you know has either traveled there or lives there and can give you the lowdown on the good, the bad and the ugly (which all vacationers are trying to avoid.)
- Pinterest-If you're planning a group trip, create a board others can pin on to keep track of everyone's ideas & input. It's a great way for everyone's voice to be heard on restaurant, activity and hotel suggestions. To see how to add contributors to a board, click here and scroll down to "How to let other people contribute to your board."
- Twitter-Follow airlines, hotels, and places of interest you'd like to visit for updates on events, deals, happenings, etc. Search for friends or tweeters that have hashtagged something you're interested in like #Paris or #Vegas to see what the buzz is about.
