So let's say you find the time some Saturday afternoon to reorganize your garage or holiday decorations or kitchen drawer.  How do you keep things in place so you don't have to another Saturday afternoon re-reorganizing?  Here are some tips:

  1. Now that items have a home, put them away when you are finished.  Not tomorrow.  Not later on today.  Put them away when you are finished using them.
  2. Remember your any good organizing plan requires upkeep.  It's not like your Ronco "Set It and Forget It."  Find time to revisit your space.  Maybe just a few minutes each week or month.  Maybe even just once a year for things like holiday decorations.  Evaluate what is working in your space and make sure you still have adequate storage and materials to maintain the order (hanging files for your filing cabinet, plastic bins for outgrown clothing, etc).
By working to maintain the order you have established through your organizing efforts you are changing your behavior towards a more organized lifestyle.

In honor of the school year beginning, I will be exploring the ABC's of Organizing until the end of September. Check back daily to find out more!
