One of the secrets of a happy life is continuous small treats. -- Iris Murdoch
We tend to be very goal oriented. Most of us actually work much better when we have an end in mind. A goal weight. A marathon. A vacation. So why not transfer this idea to our organizing projects?
Rather than just plugging away at your tasks, why not reward yourself for reaching your small organizing plateaus. Pay your bills on time for 6 months and you get a small weekend trip with the money you've saved in late fees. Purchase that great new jacket you've been eyeing if you go through your closet and pare down the summer clothes you no longer wear.
The reward system also works well with the little organizers in your home. If they pick up their toys or put away their laundry, they get a reward. Whether we're young or old, positive reinforcement goes a long way to help establish positive new habits.
